Food to go lines, evening meals and late night study treats just got easier at the University of Birmingham, following the opening of a new Co-op store on campus.
It has teamed up with Co-op to launch the latest addition to campus life, with a range and choice developed to conveniently serve those living, studying, working and visiting the site.
The store has a strong focus on quick and easy customer service, with an array of 13 self-service till points designed to serve the student population during peak times of the day.
Located in the University Centre, the store also includes an in-store bakery and Costa Coffee Express.
The store is operated by the University as a franchise and supports 14 local jobs. In addition, opportunities are expected to become available for students via the University of Birmingham’s Worklink-Hub, dedicated to helping students find flexible, part-time work on campus so they can earn while they learn and develop new skills to boost their employability.
Peter Kelland, the University of Birmingham’s head of retail and brands, said: “We’re delighted to launch our latest addition to campus life. Our focus is on giving students easy access to affordable, high quality food in a space designed around university life.
“The Co-op’s strong commitment to sustainability and community aligns closely with our values and we’ve worked together to create a store which I’m confident will exceed the expectations of the University’s students and staff.”
Melanie Crunkhorn, Co-op franchise business development manager, added: “We’re proud to unveil our newest store at the University of Birmingham. By working together, we’ve created a store which is focused on the pace and needs of this diverse and dynamic campus community.”
Earlier this month Co-op confirmed new stores would open on campus in Birmingham and Glasgow, Co-op also has stores located on further Russell Group University campus located in Leeds, Newcastle and Warwick – the latter being the largest Co-op store on campus.
The new stores at Birmingham (and Glasgow when it launches later this summer) will take the total number of Co-op’s university campus franchise stores to 14.
