Three retailers have received £5,000 each towards a store refresh as part of Premier’s 5,000 Roadshow celebrations.
Raja Brothers Premier in Mosseley, Greater Manchester; Ali’s Convenience, located in Tranent, East Lothian and Premier Family Stores, in Ellacombe, Devon have each be awarded £5,000 towards their stores to celebrate Premier reaching 5,000 sites.
The Roadshow included national promotions, community giveaways and events designed to support independent retailers and drive footfall during key trading periods.
Raja Brothers Premier said the £5,000 prize will be used to enhance the store for the community, helping to improve the shopping experience for local customers and support continued growth for the business.
Aingaran Somasuntharam, owner of Raja Brothers Premier, said: “After investing so heavily into a refit earlier this year, winning this additional £5,000 is a fantastic boost for the business. It means we can continue improving the store and reinvesting in the experience for our customers. The response since reopening has been brilliant, especially around the new beer cave, refreshment area and expanded fresh food offering.”

Anila Ali, owner of Ali’s Convenience, said the money will go towards growing their estate. “Winning this prize is incredible for us and for our community. We’ll be using the £5,000 to refresh the store and make it an even better place for our customers. Our shop is at the heart of the local area, so any improvements we can make will help us continue to serve everyone who relies on us day to day.
“We have been trading with Premier for 15 years and are proud to be part of the network. We invested £180,000 in a full refit of our Tranent store three years ago, and we’re also preparing to open a second Premier store in Muirpark, Dalkeith, following a £200,000-plus investment. This prize will help us continue improving what we offer local shoppers.”

Premier Family Stores is currently preparing for a major redevelopment project, with plans to expand the store from 900 square feet to almost 2,000 square feet following planning approval earlier this year. Investment will include improved customer access, increased product ranges, expanded chilled and frozen space, and solar panels to improve energy efficiency. The redevelopment is expected to begin this autumn, with completion planned for early 2027.
Steve Palmer, owner of Premier Family Stores and SPH Retail Ltd, said: “Winning this prize is incredible for us and for our community. We’ll be using the £5,000 to refresh the store and make it an even better place for our customers. Our shop is at the heart of the local area, so any improvements we can make will help us continue to serve everyone who relies on us day to day.
“We’ve worked incredibly hard to grow the business over the last few years and are excited about the future. Securing planning permission for our redevelopment was a huge milestone, and this additional investment from Premier comes at the perfect time as we prepare to take the store to the next level.”
Managing director for Retail at Booker, Colm Johnson, said: “Reaching 5,000 stores is a huge milestone for Premier, and we’re proud to support our retailers by reinvesting in their businesses. Initiatives like this help stores continue to serve their local communities and thrive.”
