A Surrey c-store manager has praised the work of a local community policeman in combating anti-social behaviour, but has called on the officer’s seniors to make sure his good work doesn’t go to waste.

PC Jason Woods was dubbed the ‘Sheriff of Ashtead’ by retailers and locals after he helped cut anti-social behaviour from a group of youths in the village. However, One Stop store manager Shan Welikala is concerned that PC Woods is now concentrating on other areas. He said: “We have had a good relationship with PC Woods and he has done a lot of good work, with his continued presence alone deterring people from causing trouble. However, recently we have seen him less and the problems, like kids intimidating staff, have started to pick up again. I hope his superiors haven’t decided that enough has been done here, because that’s not the case.”

Surrey Police were unable to comment at the time of going to press.
