Midcounties Co-op has bought the 10-strong chain of Rusts c-stores for an undisclosed sum.
The acquisition takes place as Rusts chairman John Emeny retires after 60 years in food retail. John, who set up the convenience chain in 1978, said he was pleased the business had been sold to Midcounties, which also added the Stars News chain to its portfolio at the start of the year.
While John cited his retirement as a key factor for the sale, he added that supermarket competition had made it more difficult to establish new stores.
Rusts directors said they were confident the sale would ensure the continued progress of the stores and maintain the employment of its staff.
