Nirvana is celebrating a decade of brewing with a limited-edition mocha porter, following its “most successful trading” year which saw sales jump 73% year-on-year.
Mocha Porter 0.5% abv (RRP:£2.75/330ml) is the first in a series of “very special limited-edition brews” celebrating the low & no alcohol brewery’s 10th anniversary.
The porter offered flavours of “coffee, chocolate and roasted hazelnut”, said Nirvana, who described it as “rich, smooth and complex”.
Created in collaboration with East London coffee specialists Climpson & Sons, the beer features the firm’s premium ‘Midnight Oil’ coffee concentrate, made from sustainably-grown Brazilian coffee beans using an innovative flash-brewing technique.
Unlike cold brewing, this method captures the “full spectrum” of flavours from coffee beans and creates a finish with ”depth and clarity that’s akin to the finest espresso”, the brewer said.
For the porter, the coffee concentrate is complemented with cacao nibs and a blend of barley, oat and wheat to “layer on even greater depth”, it added.
The coffee beans used in Climpson & Sons’ concentrate are sourced from Brazil’s ‘Daterra’, a globally-recognised leader in sustainability and the world’s first B-Corp certified farm, plus the first to achieve Rainforest Alliance ‘Level A’ status.
“Now’s the time for hunkering down with darker, more complex, beers and this hits the spot – especially for anyone doing Dry January or limiting their alcohol intake,” said Nirvana’s head brewer James Rabagliati. ”It’s a deeply satisfying brew – layers of rich flavours combining in an indulgent fashion.”
