Co-op has revealed that tomorrow (Christmas Eve) is to be its busiest day for shoppers to ‘pop’ a bottle of Prosecco in their basket, with the popular Italian sparkler even outselling a pint of milk.
The retailer says it’s planning for extra fizz in sales on the day before Christmas, with around 250k bottles heading into its stores, as it expects purchases of Prosecco on Christmas Eve to average more than a bottle every second across its 2,300 stores.
Adding a sparkle to any occasion or celebration, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve are the only times of the year that Co-op sees Prosecco out-sell a pint of milk, it added.
Co-op’s top-seller is its 75cl Irresistible Prosecco, made in Veneto, the famous Prosecco area of Northeast Italy. It is now reduced to £6.50* (for Co-op members) until 2 January 2026.
Rebecca Oliver-Mooney, Co-op’s director of commercial, said: “Prosecco continues to be a hugely popular choice, particularly at this time of year, with our shoppers and members looking to pick up something for those Christmas festivities which offer fantastic quality and value and is guaranteed to be a real crowd-pleaser for their guests. We’re anticipating demand to boom during Christmas week and we’re stocking up ahead of the big rush.”
