Convenience Store (34)

Josh Love was charged with numerous store thefts of goods totalling over £2,000.

A shoplifter has been banned from six stores across Southend and Rochford for two years, following an investigation by the city’s local policing team.

Josh Love, 31, was also jailed for a total of 18 weeks by Basildon magistrates last week (14 January) after being convicted of 14 shop thefts, involving a total of almost £2,100 of goods from six stores in Southend, Westcliff and Rochford between 19 July and 4 September 2025.

Among the items he stole were energy drinks, smoked salmon and laundry detergent.

Investigating officer, PC Edward Holah, said after the hearing that Love was a prolific offender and that was why an application for a criminal behaviour order (CBO) had been made. “We’re committed to protecting local shops, their staff and their customers from thieves who want to steal things without paying for them.

“Shop theft is distressing for all who experience it and over the years, Love has caused several local businesses severe financial loss. I hope this banning order will provide staff and customers he targeted with some reassurance. Our neighbourhood policing team will work with retailers to ensure it’s enforced.”

The CBO which magistrates imposed forbids Love from entering the shops he targeted - a branch of B&M, two BP service stations, a One Stop store, a Tesco Express and a Londis.

Love was also ordered to pay a total of £2,081.75 in compensation.
