Former Spar managing director Jerry Marwood is to make a return to the organisation in the new year as the managing director of Blakemore Trade Partners, the largest UK distributor to independent Spar retailers.

Marwood will start in his new position in January 2012, taking over from current md Dennis Evans, who is retiring next month.

Blakemore Trade Partners was set up earlier this year following the merger of AF Blakemore’s and Capper & Co’s Spar distribution organisations, and services around 760 independent Spar stores throughout Wales and central and southern England.

Marwood left his role at Spar central office only in September, having spent a total of 15 years with the symbol group.

Peter Blakemore, chairman of Blakemore Trade Partners, commented: “Jerry brings with him a wealth of experience in Spar, and I am delighted that he will take over as our new managing director.”

Evans plans to spend his retirement developing a Costa Coffee franchise in Scotland owned by him and his wife. Blakemore added: “I would like to thank Dennis for his significant contribution to our Spar business. He leaves the business in a very strong position, and I wish him a long and happy retirement.”
