I got the following rant during the first week in June. It comes from Stuart Mitchell, who runs Mitchells Newburgh in Aberdeenshire, and it goes like this: “Could you warn your readers not to deal with Cashzone/Cardtronic. Despite having a letter saying my cancellation was accepted (gave them over a year’s notice!) and that the ATM would be uplifted within 30 days after the end of the agreement, it is still in my shop - 11 weeks after the contract ended!
“I have phoned and emailed so many times yet still no further on; today I was told that they are awaiting a director’s approval for the uplift! So despite a five-year contract that we both knew the end date of, giving them more than one year’s notice that I wasn’t renewing and a letter from them saying they would uplift the ATM eight weeks ago, it is still in my shop!
“I have suggested I unbolt the machine and shove it outside, but they tell that would be criminal damage. As part of Costcutter I have them chasing this for me, but they also are getting nowhere so please put a warning on your page so no other retailer signs a contract and gets stuck with an ATM.”
Whew, that was heartfelt.
I contacted Cashzone and a spokesperson said: “We regret the inconvenience that Mr Mitchell has experienced and we would like to offer our sincere apologies. We have informed him that the removal of the machine has been scheduled and is due to take place before the end of this month (June).”
