Several of you got in touch regarding old unwanted Lanwall photocopiers now that the leases are paid up. Mark Bristow, of Wessex News, Yeovil, used to work for the Magistrates Court Service in London in the late 80s and is well aware of the terrible contracts photocopy companies manage to foist on ‘customers’, and the constant equipment breakdowns. “Their engineer had his own parking space outside our building,” he quips.

He suggests writing to the finance companies that are demanding final handover money and telling them to come and get their property, or they will be charged rent for the space.

My northern correspondent, Dr Glyn Reece, suggests telling them if the machine is not collected within 30 days, or an arrangement made, the retailer will sell it and deduct any costs from any sums realised and send them the balance. “Watch them move!”
