Retailer Bobby Singh, who owns the BB Superstore and Post Office in Pontefract will be a familiar face to many Convenience Store readers, and has long celebrated his local community with fun events and activations in an effort to give a little back.
But Bobby has recently joined a campaign that’s closer to his heart. This week, he took to social media to draw attention to the plight of a young local girl who needed help, as he explained: “This fundraiser is for a beautiful little girl and her family. Sadly, four-year-old Thea-Mae has been diagnosed with terminal stage four brain cancer, and her family are facing an incredibly heartbreaking journey that no family should ever have to go through.”
On first hearing the news, Bobby said he knew he had to do something. “As a community, we wanted to come together to support the family in any way we can, and help them make precious memories together during this difficult time.
“Our community is amazing when people need support, and everyone really came together.”
“When we heard about the situation, it really touched all of us. Life can be so unfair sometimes, and we just felt we had to do something to help and show them they’re not alone. Our community is amazing when people need support, and everyone really came together.”
Fundraising from Bobby and his team began as soon as possible, he said: “Over Easter we held events and thanks to the support of the local community, we raised £800.
“A huge amount of credit goes to Rachel and Amanda from the BB Superstore team, who’ve organised the fundraising, and as a team we’ve brought the community together.
“We’re now continuing with more fundraising, including another raffle, and spreading awareness through social media, which has had an amazing response to help raise as much support as possible so far.”
Bobby said there was no specific target in mind to raise, other than “as much as we possibly can,” all in a bid to ease the pressure on mum Bethany and her family.
He concluded: “I’m always happy to help with causes like this, absolutely. At the heart of everything is community, and if we can help people in difficult times, we always will. The kindness and generosity people have shown has been incredible.”
