Scarborough-based Daniel Wilson has just opened his 16th One Stop on Falsgrave Road and is in the process of moving his Bridlington Promenade store from its current 800sq ft site to a 2,000sq ft site over the road. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg for this ambitious retailer. Speaking to Convenience Store from the new Bridlington Promenade outlet, Daniel tells us about a further four c-stores he has in the pipeline; the challenges of being a multi-site retailer; and his potential to double the store estate.

He also addresses rising costs and energy efficiency measures, as well as discussing the merits of different symbol groups and how being a franchisee has enabled him to grow his business.

“Probably the biggest learning curve [of being a multi-site retailer] is that understanding that you’ve got to allow people to take on more roles,” says Daniel. “As we grow we’re always having to lose more control of things we do ourselves, but it doesn’t have to be negative, it can be a positive if you get the right people.”

Daniel was interviewed and videoed by his daughter Ella Wilson who is heading to Salford University in September to study broadcast journalism.
