Police are appealing for witnesses following a knife-point armed robbery at a McColl’s store in Wiltshire.

The incident happened at the convenience store on Dursley Road in the town of Trowbridge at around 6:30pm on 2 March.

A man approached the cashier with a knife in his hand and demanded she hand over money from the till, before he grabbed a small amount of cash from the till drawer before making off from the shop.

The suspect is described as white, approximately 5ft 4 inches tall, and of stocky build with dark eyes. He was wearing a dark hooded top, and a dark scarf over his face.

Detective constable, Matthew Smith, said: “This incident happened in the early evening on a Saturday - it’s therefore likely there were people out and about in the area. The whole incident only lasted a matter of minutes but it left the member of staff feeling understandably very shaken up.

“We are carrying out a thorough investigation and progressing with our enquiries this morning. We’d urge anyone who was in the Dursley Road area at approximately 6.30pm yesterday, or anyone who was driving past who has dash-cam fitted to their vehicle to get in touch via 101. You could have footage of the suspect and we would be keen to view this.”

The incident followed a number of recent armed robberies across the UK, including an incident in the West Midlands in which a female convenience store worker was attacked by masked men armed with baseball bats and an armed robbery at a convenience store in West Yorkshire.
