£40,000 of illicit vapes have been seized by the City of London Corporation’s Trading Standards team

The store, located in Square Mile, was the subject of an investigation by Trading Standards offices in November.

During the visit, they confiscated a large quantity of non-compliant vapes from one shop which were in direct infringement of UK legislation due to the excessive size of the chamber containing nicotine, which will be destroyed.

The owner of the business was issued with a notice, and will pay £400 in destruction costs.

Chairman of the City of London Corporation’s Environment Committee, Keith Bottomley, said: “Our Trading Standards team works hard to ensure that the Square Mile is a safe place for people to shop.

“This case shows the commitment of our officers in making sure that people are buying the correct products and not being sold something that is more damaging to their health and wellbeing.”

Vape brand Elf Bar recently came under fire for supplying vape products with chambers that were too large for the UK market. The products in question have been removed from sale from several retailers.

Earlier this month, the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) welcomed some of the recommendations by the Local Government Association (LGA) for the strengthening of rules governing the sale of vapes and vaping products to young people. These included the introduction of plain packaging and for the products to kept out of sight of customers.
