Last-mile delivery service Stuart has achieved over 97% compliance on age-restricted deliveries following the rollout of its new Challenge 25 technology, it has reported.
The result is more than double the industry average of around 40%, said Stuart, citing third-party audit data.
While age-restricted transactions are monitored in-store by trained staff, home delivery presents unique compliance hurdles, said the delivery service.
Stuart said its new ID-scanning solution has solved this challenge by enabling a secure and accurate age verification for alcohol and other restricted items at point of delivery.
The self-employed couriers scan IDs, with the system automatically detecting date of birth to confirm recipients are aged 18 or over.
Stuart said the technology “stores no personal data and prevents couriers from accessing or retaining ID images”.
Couriers have reported positive feedback, noting the tool’s simplicity, speed and strong privacy safeguards, as well as the fact that it does not compromise the shopper experience.
