
The Co-op has launched a new own brand range of GLP-1 friendly meals in a UK convenience retailer first, as part of a new Good Fuel health offer.
GLP-1 (Glucagon-like peptide-1) refers to a natural gut hormone and medications, GLP-1 agonists, that mimic it to help manage type 2 diabetes and weight loss such as Ozempic
In stores from later this week (7 January), the Good Fuel - Power Up Your Plate offer includes four new mini meals specially developed for shoppers with smaller appetites following data which reveals 3% of the UK population – which is the equivalent of one in every 30 – is now using a form of weight loss medication.
Meal’s include Co-op’s Butternut Squash, Beans & Grains 250g, Co-op Chicken & Sweet Potato Penang Curry 250g, Co-op Chicken & Courgette Alfredo Pasta 250g and Co-op Butternut Squash, Beans & Grains 250g, priced at £3.50 each.
Nicole Tallant, retail trading director, said: “Our members and customers are changing the way they approach health. There’s also a growing need to cater for smaller appetites with meals that provide the quality without so much of the quantity. This whole new range is aimed at supporting shoppers’ wellbeing in a meaningful, accessible and convenient way.”
The new Good Fuel range also includes a new “holistically” healthy range, which includes a choice of five meals featuring high-protein, slow-releasing carbohydrates, and added-benefit ingredients such as gut-friendly fibres and nutrient-dense vegetables.
It includes Piri Piri Chicken with Rice 380g - a high protein dish with marinated cooked British chicken breast pieces in a spicy piri piri sauce, cooked brown rice, broccoli florets, carrots and red quinoa.
The range is on offer to Co-op Members who can buy any 2 for £6 while non-members buy any 2 for £6.50) from 7 January until 22 January inclusive.
