A wanted man behind a retail crimewave is now in custody after officers from Nottinghamshire Police finally caught him.
Corey Fawsitt found himself before the courts earlier this week, where he confessed to an astonishing 43 separate charges. All of these related to his behaviour in Nottingham’s shops, with many repeated targets. Meat, chocolates and laundry products made up the bulk of his hauls.
Fawsitt was responsible for a mammoth 27 shop thefts from 12 different stores, and all mostly since last December. His offending stretched back to further than that, however, with the 23-year-old also linked to one theft last February too.
The stores impacted were scattered across different parts of Nottingham – some of which Fawsitt was already banned from. His ongoing illegal actions meant he’d breached an existing Criminal Behaviour Orders (CBOs) on 15 separate occasions.
This prompted officers to release two separate wanted appeals – including a Crimestoppers appeal offering a £1,000 reward – in recent weeks.
Within a couple of days, Fawsitt was spotted stealing again, this time from a shop in Lenton on the morning of Valentine’s Day. Neighbourhood officers on patrol saw him nearby shortly afterwards and, following a short foot chase, arrested him in the Abbey Bridge area.
Fawsitt appeared at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Monday (16 February), where he admitted to 27 different shop thefts, 15 CBO breaches, and a further public order offence. He has been remanded into custody until 9 March, when he will be sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court.
Acting Sergeant Abi Goddard, of the Bestwood neighbourhood policing team, said: “Corey Fawsitt is a prolific shoplifter who has caused all sorts of issues, not just in our neighbourhoods, but across other parts of the city too.
“Despite being sentenced for his thieving several times in the past, he has failed to heed any of these warnings and continued to be involved in criminality.
“Some fantastic teamwork helped secure his capture and the guilty pleas that followed, with the neighbourhood policing teams in Bestwood, Sherwood and Radford Road all playing a role.
“A significant amount of time has been spent dealing with Fawsitt, so we’re delighted to know he’s now in custody and awaiting sentencing.”
