A shoplifter has been jailed after repeatedly flouting a court order to steal joints of meat from a Co-op store.
Prolific thief Robert Cooper walked into the Co-op in Southchurch Drive in Clifton on three occasions in four days in mid February.
He grabbed steaks, joints and other meat products, as well as laundry goods before fleeing without paying, Nottinghamshire Police said this week.
Just by entering the store, Cooper was breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) which had been imposed by magistrates in June 2025. At Nottingham Crown Court on Friday (13 March) he admitted three counts of shop theft and three breaches of a CBO. He was jailed for a total of 16 months.
Sergeant Simon Reid, of the Clifton neighbourhood policing team, said: “We work hard to secure CBOs on our most persistent shoplifters. They have a deterrent effect on these offenders who know that if they ignore the order they could end up in jail.
“This is exactly what has happened to Cooper and I hope his spell behind bars provides shop workers with some respite.
“We understand how dispiriting shoplifting must be for those who work in our community stores. Neighbourhood officers work hard with shop security teams to ensure they’re equipped with the latest technology and knowledge to tackle the issue.
“Help is also available to shoplifters who want to get out of their cycle of offending. However, if they refuse to engage and continue to steal and breach orders we will continue to arrest, charge and place them before the courts.”
