A repeat shoplifter who breached restrictions imposed on him is back behind bars and another two people have been charged as officers in north Kent continue their fight against retail crime.
Clive Tilley was given a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) preventing him from entering several supermarkets in Kent. But he ignored that order and has now been jailed for 12 weeks.
Between 27 February and 4 March this year, Tilley, 43, of no fixed address, entered stores in Delce Road, Rochester, Canterbury Street, Gillingham and James Street, Gillingham on four separate occasions stealing various items, totalling £385. He had already been handed a CBO following a previous conviction for shoplifting.
The restrictions imposed on him meant he was banned from entering every Co-op, Sainsbury’s and Tesco store in Kent.
At a hearing at Maidstone Crown Court on 7 March, he pleaded guilty to four shoplifting offences and four counts of breaching his CBO. He was immediately jailed for 12 weeks.
Meanwhile, Jake Wilkinson, 33 from Alexandra Avenue, Gillingham, has also been charged with five shoplifting offences. It’s alleged he stole items totalling more than £1,000 from stores in Gillingham and Sittingbourne between 25 October 2025 and 3 March 2026.
He was arrested on 8 March and later charged with five counts of theft from a shop. He was released on bail to appear at Medway Magistrates’ Court on 26 May.
Officers also charged Shemica Cabral, 33, from Hounslow Road, London, with five counts of theft from a shop after she allegedly stole various items amounting to more than £200 from stores in Bluewater Shopping Centre on 8 March. She was arrested and charged the same day and is due to appear at Medway Magistrates Court on 7 May.
Superintendent Matthew Burbeck said: “Shoplifting is not a victimless crime and we don’t underestimate the damaging impact it has on business owners.
“We will continue to work closely with our partners, including the Business Crime Reduction Partnerships as well as business owners to identify joint solutions to shoplifting and antisocial behaviour.”
