Kent Police have issued a video showing the arrest of a prolific shoplifter on the Isley of Sheppey.
Josh Kennedy, 31, was arrested on 19 February having been stopped by officers after he left a store in Millennium Way with a basket full of goods to the value of £26.56. Officers stopped him in Hope Street and found chocolate and cleaning products within his jacket.
The force has also released a video of the moment he was captured, which you can watch below.
Following further enquiries, officers were able to charge Kennedy with another nine theft offences. He appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court on 21 February, where he pleaded guilty and was immediately sentenced to 18 months in custody.
Investigating officer, Police Sergeant Jon Buckingham, said: ‘Shoplifting causes harm beyond the retailers targeted, often leading to higher prices for local residents so businesses can offset their losses.
‘Kent Police is firmly committed to addressing this behaviour, and I welcome the custodial sentence imposed on Kennedy, which reflects the seriousness of his actions.’
