Following a Thames Valley Police investigation, an extremely prolific man has been jailed for shoplifting specifically form Co-op stores in and around Oxford.
Daniel Edwards, aged 26, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to five months in prison at Oxford Magistrates Court on Wednesday last week (23 July).
Edwards pleaded guilty to an astonishing eight counts of shoplifting on the same day. Between 5 May and 21 July this year, he also committed a number of thefts at the Co-Op stores on Cherwell Drive and London Road in Oxford. These amounted to goods worth over £1429.15.
He was arrested on Monday 21 July and charged the next day.
Investigating officer of the North East Oxford Neighbourhood Policing Team, PC Ffion Mount, said “I’d like to reassure the public that Thames Valley Police do take thefts from stores seriously and will always look to target prolific offenders. I hope that this sentence and arrest of Edwards shows that robust action will be taken, and this will not be tolerated.
“This is in relation to an ongoing series of shopliftings from the same suspect targeting Co-op stores specifically. Thank you to collaborative working with Incident and Crime Response and the local Neighbourhood policing team, an offender was identified and brought to justice.”
