Shoplifter Daniel Hough of Middlewich has been sentenced to 55 weeks in custody after targeting stores in Crewe

Daniel Hough, aged 35, admitted to a pair of shoplifting offences in the town, breaching the terms of a previous suspended sentence order, and now finds himself banned from every Co-op in Cheshire.

In addition to other thefts, on May 29 Hough walked into a Co-op in Crewe and pocketed two iced coffees, before leaving the store without paying.

In committing the offences, Hough breached the terms of an order handed to him just days before the initial incident, and will therefore serve at least half of his suspended sentence. As part of this this, he was also ordered to complete a drug rehabilitation programme.

At sentencing at Crewe Magistrates Court last week (6 August), the court heard how there had been a ‘significant turnaround’ since Hough started rehab. Stuart Flood, defending, said Hough’s last five years had been ‘very difficult for him’ because of drug use and homelessness.

As a result of the thefts, Hough has also been banned from entering Grand Junction Retail Park in Crewe for two years. He will also have to pay £53 in compensation.
