Zapper has now been rolled out across Appleby Westward’s Gillett’s Spar stores following a successful soft launch in six stores back in October.

The phone app-based payment, loyalty and instant rewards platform is now available for shoppers to use in 20 Gillett’s Spar sites around Plymouth, Exeter and Torquay.

Calum Fairnie, store manager of Gillett’s Spar, Mote Park, said the app was encouraging shoppers to visit the store more often to earn their loyalty rewards.

Gillett’s operations director Phil Darch added: “We have been looking for some time how we can reward our customers with a loyalty program that is easy to administer offers real value to consumers and is integrated into a simple payment process.

“We believe that Zapper fits the bill and early indications have been very positive”.

Users simply open the app, scan the QR code on the digital display at the till to pay quickly and securely using their mobile. With just one tap, users also instantly top up their digital store loyalty card and redeem any available vouchers.

Zapper UK retail director Jon Birt said: ”We have a great relationship with the retailers and were delighted by the results from the initial six store launch.

“It’s great to see shoppers in the South West demanding to pay with their mobile so they can earn their loyalty points and exclusive vouchers with Zapper.”

Zapper is already in use in several Nisa and Costcutter stores as-well as Booker-supplied outlets.
