Supplier Ballymaguire Foods has been forced to recall 42 different various ready meals and side dishes because they may contain Listeria monocytogenes, in a move which affects certain Tesco products and numerous other own label lines.

The products affected have been listed by the Food Standard Agency (FSA) in the UK, with further recalls happening in Ireland from the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI).

The FSA revealed the concerns span the likes of Tesco’s Meals Made Easy and Finest ranges, products from Clean Cut, Good Food, Signature Taste and SuperValu, which are available to independent retailers across Ireland.

All batch codes and best before dates in the listings are included in the recall.

Symptoms caused by Listeria monocytogenes can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications such as meningitis.

Some people are more vulnerable however, including those over 65, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies under a month old and people with weakened immune systems.

POS notices will be displayed in all stores selling the products, explaining to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products.

The POS material is available to download here.

Customers who have purchased any of the products are advised to return them to stores for a full refund.
