Six Co-op Food stores are to start offering John Lewis’ Next Day Click and Collect service as part of a trial.

The move, which is designed to help John Lewis reach more customers, will give its online shoppers access to the service in areas where there are fewer or no John Lewis or Waitrose stores.

The trial will initially launch in the Co-op’s Manchester Support Centre store, where it will be available to Co-op colleagues, and will then be followed by five further stores in Manchester, Nottingham and London.

Customers will also be able to return orders to the stores.

John Lewis & Partners head of customer fulfilment operations Eva Cullen said: “Our Click and Collect service is growing in popularity every year as our customers benefit from the ease of being able to pick up their order at a time and place which is convenient to them.

“We are always looking for new ways to be more convenient for our customers and to reach new customers, and the success of this trial would present the opportunity to roll out the service to more shops.

Co-op director of innovation and format Mark Pettigrew added: “It is all about creating ease, convenience and choice for today’s time-pressed shopper.

“This is an exciting development, innovations and new technologies are driving a number of initiatives and creating value in our communities through increased offers and services for our Members and customers.”

The Click and Collect trial with Co-op follows the success of a partnership with Booths, which launched last year and is now available in eight Booths stores.

Since the launch, 45% of Click and Collect orders made to these shops are from new customers.
