UK forecourt operator Penny Petroleum has signed a deal with CJ Lang to move eight of its Scottish convenience stores to Spar.
The move takes Penny Petroleum’s Scottish Spar estate to 10, all of which will be supplied by the Spar distributor by the end of 2019.
The revamped stores – currently trading under a combination of the Premier and Londis brands - will focus on expanding food-to-go, fresh and frozen food ranges, and beer, wine and spirits.
Penny Petroleum managing director, David Penny, said: “Our Scottish side of the business has grown significantly over the last couple of years, and with the number of sites that we now have in that area, we need the right partner to move forward with.

“This new partnership will help us meet our customer needs locally, and develop our stores and teams to do so. I look forward to seeing where this journey will take us.”
CJ Lang sales director, Mike Leonard, said: “At Spar Scotland we have worked closely with Penny Petroleum on the two existing sites. We are delighted that they have given us the opportunity to service and develop a further eight stores.

The eight Penny Petroleum sites moving to Spar are based in: Auld Brig; Tam o Shanter; Garvock; Nellfield; Camelon; Rumford; Armadale; and Bonnybridge. Its current Spar sites in Scotland are in Ayr and Kirkmuirhill.
The Northumberland-based group has a total of 52 sites across northern England and Scotland.
