Kent-based forecourt operator Spar Parkfoot has announced its continued sponsorship of England Women’s rugby player, and former store employee, Rosie Galligan.

Rosie, who is currently studying at Loughborough University, was born and raised in West Malling, Kent and currently plays for London-based rugby side Saracens, leading to her first England call-up in March this year, to the excitement of her former employers.

Managing director of Parkfoot, David Charman, who managed Rosie for a number of years, said: “Rosie worked for us from a young age while she attended one of the local schools. She was always very sporty growing up and has done very well for herself in recent years.

“Without the level of pay of other top athletes, Rosie has had to fund a lot of her travel and expenses herself, making it difficult for her. So, Parkfoot and Spar sponsor her to help her fulfil her dream.”

“Rosie is well-known and loved around West Malling now and has turned into a bit of a local superstar because of all she has achieved,” David added.

“At Parkfoot, we are heavily family orientated and we know Rosie’s family very well as a result. We have known them for quite some time now, with her mother still coming into the shop almost every day. We even employed her younger sister for a time too.”

Spar Parkfoot was named Convenience Retailer of the Year in the 2014 Convenience Retail Awards (CRA).
