Retailers Nigel and Sue Masters’ store in Oswaldtwistle in Lancashire has become the 50th independently-owned Spar to take on Cheeky Coffee, with the brand now installed there.
It means Cheeky Coffee is now available at more than 200 Spar stores across the North of England as its roll out into all James Hall & Co. Ltd company owned Spar stores has been completed this Spring.
In a third development, support for the growth of the Cheeky Coffee brand into the future has been boosted by the launch of a new dedicated website enabling Spar customers to locate their nearest store and take advantage of the Cheeky Coffee loyalty scheme.
For Nigel and Sue, who are themselves celebrating 40 years of ownership of Spar Oswaldtwistle this year, they are continuing to move with the times.
Their store is serviced by James Hall & Co. Ltd and the couple’s first brush with the Cheeky Coffee brand occurred two years ago when Sue tasted Cheeky Coffee at a 2024 Spar tradeshow. Sue said: “I tried a Cheeky Coffee latte for the first time which I really enjoyed, and you could say that my view was transformed.
“We speak with fellow Spar retailers regularly and have also charted the growth of Cheeky Coffee since the Transform show. We’ve been impressed the feedback from other independent retailers and the look and feel of the brand.
“Fast forward to the install and I think we got the launch right by offering free coffees to our customers. They’ve really taken to it and the loyalty cards we provide giving them a free hot drink after buying six.”
Nigel added: “Lunchtime is a big opportunity for us and since we’ve put Cheeky Coffee into our store, we have already seen the cups increase by a third on average. With significantly increased margin on a better value cup for customers, it’s a win-win. The link deals we can offer now too have boosted our Food To Go sales by 10% and the progress is good.”
Peter Dodding, sales director at James Hall & Co. Ltd and chair of the Spar Northern Guild, added: “Across the company owned Spar store estate we’ve seen that wherever Cheeky Coffee has been installed and whatever the site, the uptake has been strong and the feedback from customers has been very positive.
“Increasing numbers of independent Spar retailers are discovering this too. We were optimistic that Nigel and Sue’s store in Oswaldtwistle would be a success and I am delighted that this has already proven to be the case, with the boost to Food To Go an additional benefit.”
