That’s also the case with Coop’s own estate, they have never managed to buy well enough to run large stores and give them an effective price offer or range. Whilst many of their ops guys understood what makes a large store work very few in Manchester did.
The 2025 generation knows nothing but buying for convenience although not always understanding what convenience means or (for example) rural small shops that are not just about coke, crisps and Cadbury’s.
The policy of smaller stores only, was not a consequence of some special insight but a consequence of not being able to run fast enough to support normal sized supermarkets.
