Tropical Sun’s new Purple Sweet Potato Crisps are hoping to tap into the ‘ube’ trend for purple snacks.

One of the UK’s leading world food brands, Tropical Sun, has expanded its snacking portfolio with the launch of a new 300g tub of Purple Sweet Potato Chips, as “demand grows for globally inspired and visually distinctive products,” it said.

The NPD taps into the ongoing popularity of purple food formats with products containing ube (purple yam) - including viral ube lattes - gaining traction across social media and influencing consumer purchases.

Tropical Sun Purple Sweet Potato Chips are rolling out via UK wholesalers now, including Wanis International Foods, which exclusively distributes Tropical Sun products with an RRP of £3.99.

Made from naturally purple-fleshed sweet potatoes, the new crisps offer a lightly sweet flavour profile and aim to deliver strong shelf standout within the premium snacking segment.

Vas Sideras, head of retail and online channels at Wanis, said: “Shoppers are increasingly looking for something different within snacking. Purple sweet potato is a great example of this – it’s already gaining momentum through trends like ube, and we expect this product to perform well across both wholesale and retail channels.”
