Spar has unveiled its vision for the future with a new flagship store which puts the spotlight on healthy convenient meal solutions, and its network of independent store operators.

Owned by Lawrence Hunt & Co, Spar Penwortham in Lancashire also features a new fascia design, including a white background with Spar in 3D red lettering, and the store’s location and owner’s name on the front.

Fresh meat, fish and vegetable ranges have all been increased and are being supported with meal deals and recipe suggestions to better capture the evening and weekend meal market.

In addition to local products, the store also aims to be a destination for cheeses - with a range to suit a wide range of eating occasions - and dual promotions with biscuits and wines.

It also has a new internal colour scheme for a fresh look and feel, while new wood and straw display units for fruit, vegetables and bread create a market feel.

The store’s commitment to the local community is highlighted at the checkout area, which also offers impulse snacks and seasonal items. The store also features new cutting-edge technologies, such as free WiFi and mobile phone charging units.

Spar UK managing director Debbie Robinson said the store marked “a hugely innovative move for Spar”.

“Convenience retail is changing rapidly and at Spar, we want to be at the front of the pack in leading this change and to help our retailers be even better and more successful than they already are,” she commented.

Lawrence Hunt md Kevin Hunt added: “Our Penwortham Spar store makes it clear that we are committed to serving our community. Our aim was to create a personal identity and for the store to look modern and inviting to shoppers. We have absolutely achieved this and more.”
