A man has been handed a criminal behaviour order (CBO) banning him from entering 14 different shops in Shropshire.

Gareth Jones (above), of Dalford Court in Telford, was given the CBO at Telford Magistrates Court on Wednesday (8 October), along with a 23-week custodial sentence after he pleaded guilty to ten counts of theft.

A CBO is a civil order designed to tackle the most serious and persistent anti-social individuals. The powers to issue a CBO are contained in the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, where behaviour has found to have caused alarm, distress or harassment.

The CBO means the 39-year-old is not allowed to enter numerous stores within the county, including the Spar on Acorn Way and the Co-op on Grange Avenue, both in Telford, as well as Co-op stores in Shrewsbury and the Morris Central Shopping Park.

The order also means that Jones must not refuse to leave any retail premises when asked to by a member of uniformed staff, and must not make verbal threats or act in an aggressive manner towards retail staff.
