In news relevant to stores in Northern Ireland, O’Brien Fine Foods has been forced to recall three its sliced ham products because of the possible contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) has announced.
The products affected are the brand’s 80g packs of Brady Family Crumb Irish Ham with a batch code 235880, the Deluxe Honey Roast Carved Ham (130g, 235473) and the Deluxe Triple Oak Smoked Carved Irish Ham (130g, 235461).
All three products carry best before dates of 16 July 2026.
Symptoms caused by Listeria monocytogenes can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis.
Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.
As a result, O’Brien Fine Foods are recalling the above products, and point of sale notices are to be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products. These can be downloaded here.
The above products should not be eaten, ad instead returned to where they were bought for a full refund, the FSA explained.
