A man has been charged with the murder of Paisley retailer Javaid Ali.

Lee Anderson (30) was arrested by Strathclyde Police in connection with the murder. During an appearance at Paisley Sheriff Court, Anderson made no plea or declaration and was remanded in custody.

On June 15 Javaid was stabbed in the neck while working in his Sunshine Grocers store on Green Street in Paisley, Renfrewshire. He remained in a critical condition for two weeks at Royal Alexandria Hospital before succumbing to his injuries.  The 48-year-old father of three had run the store for four years and was well-liked by the local community.

During the investigation which involved over 60 officers, a £50,000 reward for information was offered by Crimestoppers, the Association of Convenience Stores and the Scottish Grocers Federation. The incident was also featured on BBC’s Crimewatch.
