A comment from a Convenience Store reader on a recent story has since prompted a reaction from delivery company Evri.
Richrd Alexander, who uses the firm to fulfil orders in his TikTok online orders and uses a Parcelshop next door for dispatch, commented in response to our piece about the introduction of electronic receipts last month. “I’ve never needed to supply the paper receipt, however entering my email address is now a bit of a pain - I prefer the original method,” he said.
However, he added that he did have concerns about a potential security issue, with his email address being filled in automatically on his device: “The in-built keyboard saves previous emails. When I start typing my email address, it will appear as a suggestion. Ideal for me, but a little concerning that anybody using the device can potentially get see my email address.”
When presented with this news, a spokesperson from Evri, speaking exclusively to Convenience Store, replied: “We launched digital receipts for ParcelShop customers following a successful trial, and we’ve received positive feedback.
“We’re aware of a technical error, limited to individual ParcelShops, and a fix for this is currently being rolled out across affected devices.
“Entering an email address for a receipt is optional, and if a claim needs to be made in this instance, it would be done via TikTok. The tracking number would be needed to make a claim, and this would be available in the platform. The receipt is not required for this process.”
Evri add that new digital receipts will reduce the number of printed paper slips by around 179 million each year, significantly reducing waste.
UPDATE: in a response from Evri today (8 July), the company has announced that “moving forward, email addresses will no longer be visible to users on the machines.”
