Retailer Pritpal Sandhu posted that he was willing to guide any shoppers through his store’s delivery app this morning.

The director of Wolverhampton’s Brookside Supermarket, Pritpal Sandhu (below left), has been helping his customers get the most from being online, and is now offering in-store tutorials on how to set up an app to allow them to have their shopping delivered.

A longstanding partner with Snappy Shopper, speaking to Convenience Store, Pritpal said the idea came to him after he witnessed the struggle some shoppers had with their shopping.

“A lot of our customers rely on home delivery because they struggle to carry heavy shopping home. However, some people still don’t understand how to download the app or use the service properly,” Pritpal said.

“Sitting at home one evening, I thought, why not create a ‘masterclass’ where customers can come in and I’ll personally sit down with them and show them how it all works?”

The idea soon became a reality - and may grow further yet, Pritpal hopes: “We’re looking at the idea of hosting a coffee morning where people can come in, ask questions and better understand how home delivery works and how easy it can be.”

Another idea Pritpal said he’s developing is filming the entire customer journey - from placing an order at home to picking it in-store, right through to delivery at the customer’s door. “I think showing the full process will help people understand the convenience and care behind it.

”Social media is also a massive part of our business. It’s one of the biggest ways of reaching our audience, and we’re always trying new things and looking for fresh ideas.”

His idea is so new, in fact, that Pritpal only posted about it this morning - but he said there have been enquiries already. “We’re hoping that over the next few days, as we continue reposting and encouraging customers, even more people [who don’t already] will learn about our home delivery service and give it a try.

“We’ll also be running some special deals that will only be available through the home delivery app, helping give it an extra boost and reward customers for using the service.”

As for who the new set-up service might be aimed at, Pritpal said they might be in line with the many different sectors of society who already use his delivery option: “The delivery side of the service has already been a huge help for customers with medical conditions or those recovering from operations.

”Being able to have shopping delivered directly can make a real difference during difficult times and gives people that extra bit of independence and convenience when they need it most.

“Being able to arrange deliveries for loved ones gives families peace of mind and helps make everyday life that little bit easier.”

“It’s also been a real godsend for families caring for elderly parents or relatives who can no longer make it to the shop themselves. Many people are balancing full-time work or living further away, so being able to arrange deliveries for loved ones gives families peace of mind and helps make everyday life that little bit easier.”

Pritpal finished by saying he believes more retailers should attempt a similar connection with their shoppers, in what could be a mutually beneficial relationship. “We’re trying to think outside the box and help everyone, especially those who may feel left behind by technology.”
