In his first column for Convenience Store, Aman Uppal trekked to Venice, Italy to visit one of the more unique-looking stores in the world.

Located on the site of a former movie theatre, the DESPAR store opened in 2017 and attracted international attention thanks to its ornate ceilings with outstanding frescoes.

The 580m2 site was a result of a 2.5m Euro investment and also featured top of the range sustainable technology including 100% LED lighting.

This is Aman’s first visit to the store and he was blown away by the fresh offering and the atmosphere created by the location.
