Post Office

Jo Hamilton, one of the sub-postmasters who inspired the ITV drama Mr Bates vs The Post Office, has criticised Labour’s handling of the compensation scheme for those wrongfully accused.

Speaking at the National Television Awards last night, Hamilton expressed her frustration with the lack of progress since the new government took power.

She joined the cast of the series on stage, which swept three awards throughout the evening.

The four-part series aired early 2024 and highlighted the legal battle led by Sir Alan Bates and the Justice for Subpostmasters Alliance against the Post Office.

Watched by millions, the drama focuses on the wrongful accusations and convictions of sub-postmasters due to the faulty Horizon IT system.

“What I’d like you to know is I went to Westminster a couple of weeks back and saw the new minister. And trust me nothing has changed,” Hamilton said live to the audience at the O2 arena in London and to viewers watching ITV.

Behind her on the stage stood a group of sub-postmasters at which she told the audience “It’s true and almost all of these people behind me haven’t been paid yet.”
