Asda has opened two new Express format stores, located in Bradford and Salford.
Following its openings at the end of last year, the group has started 2026 with the launch of two more Express stores and now operates over 500 in the UK.
Since first entering the convenience channel in 2022, Asda has rapidly expanded its c-store footprint, with 17 of the branches opening in 2025 alone.
The Bradford Express store has converted the old Hare & Hounds pub on Toller Lane, while the Salford branch is located close to Salford Central train station.
The new stores support Asda’s ambition to “strengthen its presence in high-footfall urban areas, residential neighbourhoods, and transport hubs,” it said. These are locations where Asda has traditionally had less of a footprint, but where “demand for convenience and great value continues to grow,” it added.
Each Express store offers over 3,000 products, catering to everything from top-up shops to lunch on the go. The stores also match prices on everyday essentials such as bread, milk, chicken fillets, beef mince, cheese and certain fresh goods with its larger supermarket equivalents.

The retailer also says it has a “strong pipeline of new stores” set to open later this year.
Commenting on the new openings, Joseph Sutton, vice president of Asda Express, foodservice and fuel, said: “We’re excited to kick off the year by opening two new Express stores, building on our fantastic momentum from 2025.
“In under five years, we’ve built a nationwide convenience estate of over 500 stores which is now outperforming the wider market, thanks to the combination of our great products and unbeatable value.”
A variety of services will be coming to the stores, including bakery items and food to go. On-demand food delivery options such as Uber Eats, Just Eat and Deliveroo will also soon be available.
The new Express stores will also feature electronic shelf edge labels from day one, helping to simplify operations for colleagues and boost customer experience, the retailer explained.
