Booker’s retail customers are being urged to attend a series of in-depot conferences to help them profit once large stores and supermarkets are forced to comply with a tobacco display ban in April.

As part of its ‘D-Day campaign’, two presentations a day will be held in depots across the country for the week commencing January 16.

Presentations will start at 10am and 2pm and retailers will also be offered a free copy of Booker’s 5 Steps to Great Retailing guide, which provides advice to ensure that they are giving their shoppers the best shopping experience possible.

Two further week-long events will take place from February 6 and March 12. These sessions will help retailers understand how to maximise their sales when the display ban starts in larger stores.

“D-Day is the biggest opportunity since the National Lottery,” said retail sales director Steve Fox. “We estimate that an extra two million shoppers each week could transfer to independent retailers, bringing with them an extra £1bn-worth of sales.”
