Sunday Sport has discontinued its digital edition and is encouraging readers to buy a print copy from their local newsagents.
It comes in response to a new age verification process that came into force last month. As of 25 July 2025, those attempting to access adult content online in the UK now need to verify their age.
The change follows the introduction of child online safety laws aimed at preventing minors from accessing inappropriate content online.
In light of the new procedure, the satirical British tabloid, known for regularly publishing images of topless women, has urged readers to “contact their local newsagent to deliver/reserve a physical copy going forward,” a prominent message on its website said.
Local retailers were called “superheros” in last week’s issue (20-27 July), as the paper looked to further encourage readers to “pick up your favourite newspaper and lots more - at your brilliant neighbourhood retailer,” it said.
A story on page two added: “Britain’s army of neighbourhood shopkeepers are the very backbone of our communities. They open up when we’re still snoring and are still behind their counters when we’ve gone to bed”.
The holding message on sundaysportonline.co.uk said those with digital edition subscriptions who made a payment in the last month would be “refunded in full.”
“All future PayPal subscriptions will be cancelled. We ask customers to cancel their payments to us in their PayPal account AFTER they have received their refund,” it said.
