The Scottish Grocers’ Federation is set to meet with Police Scotland following the murder of Asad Shah and other recent assaults on retailers in Glasgow.

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of Asad, who was fatally stabbed outside his store in the Shawlands area of the city on Thursday.

A spokesman for the SGF said that, although Asad’s murder was not a retail crime, there have been two other serious assaults on shopkeepers in Glasgow this year amid growing concern within the city over the vulnerability of retailers.

The SGF will meet with Assistant Chief Constable Kate Thomson of Police Scotland on 14 April to discuss these concerns.

Police are treating the Asad’s murder a religiously motivated. An online fundraising page set up by local residents has already raised more than £103,000 for his family.
