Supplier McCormack Family Farms is recalling various salad leaf products from its range because they may potentially contain Listeria monocytogenes, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) has advised.

An initial recall has now been extended to include additional products and batches, and now includes 500g packs of Baby Leaves, 250g Irish Spinach Leaves, the 200g family pack of Lettuce and more, across various batch and date codes.

Symptoms caused by Listeria monocytogenes can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea. However, in rare cases, the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications such as meningitis.

Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies under a month old and people with weaker immune systems.

POS notices will be displayed in all retail stores selling these products, available from the FSA website, explaining to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products.
