Police forces working across the towns of Bury and Prestwich have seized over £37k worth of goods including tobacco, vapes and toys from shops in the Manchester area in a two day operation.

The raids on 5 and 6 August found illicit goods across seven shops, in a collaborative effort including licensing, trading standards and immigration officers, based on intelligence from the Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

In total, they found 447 vapes,196 counterfeit toys,168 packs of hand rolling tobacco and 1713 packs of cigarettes with a total street value of £37,500.

While no arrests were made during the raids, A spokesperson for GMP said: “There were some very inventive hiding spots, including secret panels in toilet walls, false ceilings and behind boxes of cereal displayed on shelves.”

“We’ll continue to target problem premises over the rest of the year, so please let us know of any more in your area.”
