New data released by nicotine alternative retailer, Vape Superstore, has revealed the hotspots for vape recycling in the UK, after it sent a Freedom of Information request to 379 councils in a bid to find out the state of the scheme across the country.
Coming out on top of the list, in total, over 11 tonnes of vaping devices have been recycled by West Sussex County Council alone in 2025/26.
That council recycled a total of 374,000 vapes in 2025/26 - the highest number in the whole of the UK. The tonnage level is calculated based on the assumption a typical device weighs 30g.
It’s crucial not to dispose of electrical waste, such as vapes, in household general waste or recycling bins, as their lithium-ion batteries can pose a fire risk if damaged during waste collection.
Second best
Ranking second in the list was Essex County Council, which recycled 290,834 vapes in 2025/26, equivalent to 8.73 tonnes of waste. Following in third place was Cambridgeshire County Council, where 157,000 vapes were recycled, totalling 4.71 tonnes of waste.
The data also reveals that North Tyneside Metropolitan Borough Council is home to the highest number of vape recycling centres in the UK, currently standing at 30, followed by Hastings (26 centres) and Essex (21 centres).
Vape Superstore has also put together a broader guide on recycling vapes, which you can view here.
