AF Blakemore has appointed Taranjit Singh Dhillon as its new director of independent retail.

He will start on 29 December, bringing more than 20 years of experience in the retail and convenience sector.

Most recently, Dhillion has been leading retail operations at Co-op Wholesale, a position he has held since September 2024.

In April, he was named a trustee of Co-op Wholesale’s Making a Difference Locally charity.

Prior to his role at Co-op, he was national operations manager at One Stop, overseeing a network of around 350 franchisees. He has also held senior positions at Lidl and PepsiCo.

Announcing the new hire on LinkedIn, AF Blakemore said: “His track record speaks for itself, from driving the development of successful franchise models to leading initiatives that strengthened independent retail businesses through a focus on sales growth, customer retention and proposition loyalty.”

Dhillion will lead Blakemore’s independent recruitment team and be central to the continued development of Blakemore’s Trade Partners Plus, a support initiative for independent convenience store retailers.

“His collaborative style, strong leadership and deep understanding of independent retail will be invaluable as we develop our Blakemore Trade Partners Plus proposition and pursue new business opportunities,” added Blakemore.

Posting on LinkedIn, Dhillon responded: “I’m looking forward to joining the Blakemore Trade Partners team, driving growth, building lasting relationships and helping retailers across our network develop strong, sustainable businesses.”
