Southern Co-operative is to launch a drop-in centre above one of its c-stores in West Sussex to help locals voice concerns about anti-social behaviour.
The Society has worked with the local parish council and police to convert the top floor of its store in the village of Yapton into a place where the public can talk about cases of anti-social behaviour. The centre, which is to be opened in the new year, will be manned at various times during the day and evening by members of the parish council, local police or community wardens.
Southern Co-operative loss prevention manager Gareth Lewis said: “The feedback we got from customers and police was that something like the drop-in centre was needed, where local residents could discuss issues in confidence. “One overriding feature was that the community wanted contact with police, and the police were missing a route to getting intelligence about what was happening in the village.”
