Wholesalers Landmark and Booker have both responded to consumers’ environmental concerns with the release of reusable bags.

Landmark has introduced a ‘Bag for Lifestyle’ that is made from recycled polypropylene. The bags will have a retail price of 59p and will be sold exclusively through its member wholesalers.

Marketing director Ian Davidson said: “Our bag for life is also an opportunity to broaden our current consumer campaign ‘Shop Often, Shop Local, Spend Less at Lifestyle Express’, encouraging consumers to rethink their shopping habits in an effort to reduce wastage and save the environment by shopping closer to home. The bags offer our independent retailers the opportunity to show that they too are responding to these concerns."

Meanwhile, Booker has launched a re-useable cotton shopping bag that is available in its 172 branches. The bags are available in packs of 10 for £6.90 and have a rrp of 99p, offering retailers POR of 18%.

Dennis Williams of Premier Broadway Convenience Store, Edinburgh, who took part in a trial of the bags, said: “They are good quality and quite large, and at 99p each they compare very favourably with other cotton bags.

“The trial of the bags has been a great success and proved extremely popular with our customers.”
