Just under two years after selling his convenience business to The Co-operative Group, David Sands is returning to the sector with a new store trading under the Nisa Local fascia.

Set to open its doors in March, the 2,500sq ft new store  in Glenrothes, Scotland, will feature a ‘David’s Kitchen’ range of food to go products.

The range of ready meals, sandwiches, soups and salads will be freshly prepared each day by staff in the store’s kitchen, and will use the same branding and logo as a similar range of products developed by the former Sands retail business.

The store will also feature an in-store bakery counter thanks to a partnership with a local baker providing customers with fresh rolls, cakes and savouries.

It will trade from 6am to 10pm, seven days a week, providing a comprehensive range of key convenience goods and a strong value offer. A wide range of products from Scottish producers will also be included.

It will also boast an ATM and a 26-vehicle car park.

The day to day running of the store will be managed by Keith Fernie, a former senior manager and buyer with the David Sands group. He has been supervising the construction of the new store and is currently recruiting staff.

David said it was “great to be back in the high-profile convenience store arena”.

“I’m absolutely delighted to have Keith Fernie on board. He is an extremely trusted colleague, vastly experienced and the ideal person to have at the helm of this exciting new business,” he added.
