Levens Village Store has strengthened its local support for women’s welfare and grassroots sport thanks to a partnership between Co-op Wholesale’s Making a Difference Locally (MADL) charity and chocolate confectionery brand Maltesers.
The Cumbrian store donated £1,000 to local women’s refuge Springfield Domestic Abuse Support, while Sedgwick Women’s Cricket Team received £500 to boost participation and inclusion in the sport.
Since 2021, the store has donated more than £27,500 to good causes through Co-op Wholesale’s MADL charity, with funds raised via sales of Co-op own label products.
Over 20 organisations have benefitted from the store’s efforts, including Levens Toddler Group, Manna House, Growing Well and Proud in Kendal.
“Over the past four years MADL have been so very generous with their donations and each time a donation is announced I’m always on the lookout for who we can support in our community and area and contact them,” said store owner Vanessa Riley.
Social value lead at Co-op Wholesale Kate Carroll said: “These donations show how independent retailers can make a real difference to the lives of people in their communities.”
